2024 is the 60th anniversary of Edmonton Minor Hockey Week! Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week runs from Jan. 12 to 21, 2024 and celebrates one of the biggest and longest-running minor hockey tournaments in the world!

This season, Hockey Edmonton anticipates about 10,000 players from more than 600 teams ranging from U-9 to U-18 to participate in the 2024 event.

Tournament rules

Information for parents

There’s a lot of great information for parents and hockey fans to take  note of for the 2024 tournament, including the following:

  • There will be 930 games played over 10 days on 50 sheets of ice.
  • There will be 55 finals games played during finals weekend, which takes place on Jan. 20 and 21 at the Terwillegar Recreation Centre.
  • There is a $5 CASH-ONLY admission fee for the tournament. Pay $5 to receive a button that will get you into all games including finals. The button also gets you free coffee at McDonalds throughout the tournament.
  • All of the individuals working at the games are volunteers (arena managers, timekeepers, button sellers, checkers). Whenever possible, please thank them for taking time to help serve our kids!
  • All of the referees VOLUNTEER their time during the tournament. Please show them respect and gratitude.

Information for coaches

If you’re a coach and your team is participating in the tournament, please take a moment to review this helpful information for coaches. Some important information to take note of includes the following:

  • All coaches must be wearing a button when entering the arena.
  • Please be sure you have your team sheet (hard card) available to present to the arena manager before each game you play; this is a Hockey Edmonton rule and must be followed.
  • Access to dressing rooms will not be available until 45 minutes before your scheduled game at the earliest. Please be aware that if games are running behind you may be delayed getting into your room. Do not show up 60 minutes prior and expect to get into your room.
  • The length of all games is noted on the top of the schedules. Remember, all games are run-time and the clock will not stop for any reason until the last 2 or 5 minutes of the game (playoffs are 5 minutes).
  • There are NO timeouts allowed during Edmonton Minor Hockey Week.
  • As per Hockey Edmonton guidelines, there is a maximum of five coaches allowed on the bench at any time.

Volunteer opportunities

For Edmonton Minor Hockey Week, each association within Hockey Edmonton is assigned a rink to host; SWAT is managing all games at George Hughes South Side Arena, as well as select dates at Terwillegar Arena (rinks A and B).
