Below is the approved SWAT development model. The focus is player-based and does not emphasize wins and losses.

SWAT follows a development model of hockey that is applied throughout the organization. The model aligns with the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model as noted by Hockey Canada.

2017 SWAT Development Model

Players

A base set of skills and practice plans will be provided to every coach that will cover the skills required at each level and tier. This will help focus the time of the coach on coaching rather than drawing and trying to find drills that are appropriate.

As the skill level increases, we will build on the base that is established by Hockey Canada and increase the degree of difficulty in skill development sessions. At the higher level tiers (tier 1 and 2), we will aim to frame an entire season for them to help set the schedule to include on/off ice training and allow for power skating to be incorporated into the development plan.

Teams

Coaches

We will provide long term-coach mentorship through various avenues, such as allowing coaches of different categories to attend other practices. We will also schedule a coaches meeting and other opportunities as the become available.

Using a model where we develop a curriculum and fall in line with Hockey Canada's LTAD programming will ensure the hockey skills we are teaching our coaches and players will create a sustainable foundation of learning that will apply to all tiers.
