Board of directors

SWAT Hockey is a volunteer-operated non-profit organization formed to organize and administer hockey programs on behalf of the community leagues within southwest Edmonton.

The Board of Directors is formed from the general membership to ensure the efficient operation of all aspects SWAT Hockey. The Board of Directors is comprised of executive officers and directors, as defined in the SWAT bylaws. The Board of Directors is responsible for all decisions affecting program activities, including the formation of bylaws, policies and procedures, rules and guidelines.

The board is made up of elected members and appointed members, as follows:

Vice President, Hockey Operations

General duties

This position helps with many SWAT activities, such as evaluations, board meetings, budget decisions as a voting member, coach and player discipline, among other things.

Time commitment

The time commitment is heavier during evaluations and at the beginning of the season.
After evaluations are complete, the time commitment is less, and duties include answering emails and phone calls.
Attend monthly (as scheduled) SWAT board meetings.

Vice President Evaluations, Coach and Player Development

General duties

Lead a team of volunteers in organizing and implementing SWAT Hockey's evaluation process every September.
Represent SWAT at the Edmonton Federation Hockey League (EFHL) tiering meetings.
Support the director of coach and player development in implementing SWAT's development programs for players and teams.

Time commitment

The time commitment is heavy in September as the lead for evaluations and team formation.
Supported by a team of volunteers and category directors for evaluations.
Attend monthly (as scheduled) SWAT board meetings and a few EFHL meetings throughout the year.

U-13 Category Director

General duties

The majority of the work is done during evaluations. This position helps make sure things run smoothly, with duties such as making teams and organizing coaches, managers and officials.
A lot of little problem solving during evaluations, such as managing parents concerns through email.
Major involvement in the formation of the teams and parent questions after team formation.
Once teams are formed, this position primarily serve as a conduit for communication between EFHL, SWAT and teams.
Minor problem solving from season/ tournament/ ice times/suspensions once the year is underway.

Time commitment

The time commitment is heavy during evaluations.
After evaluations, time commitment is a lot less.

U-13 Assistant Category Director

General duties

Assist with evaluations in August and September, with duties such as making teams and organizing coaches, managers and officials.
During evaluations, this position receives and responds to many questions from hockey families.

Time commitment

The busiest time for this role is during the two weekends of evaluations and a few weeks before and after evaluations.
During the season, the time commitment is less, and duties include responding to emails from coaches and parents regarding suspensions, team issues related to equipment, schedules, bank accounts and tournaments.
Attend monthly (as scheduled) SWAT board meetings.

U-11 Category Director
